Story: Alex grew up just like every other normal boy. He was the star athlete in baseball and football in his school. He had natural good looks with his shaggy brown hair and striking green eyes, but all of that changed on his 13th birthday. Everybody had left at about 5 o'clock from his house and he was in the back yard with his sister playing with his new football, when he suddenly collapsed. His parents, Alicia and Gordon, were very worried when they couldn't get him to wake up, so they rushed him to the emergency room in the hospital. They were there for an hour with the doctor as he ran tests and tried to figure out what was wrong with their baby boy. Just as the doctor had left with a sample of blood to run through the machine Alex woke up and started to scream and thrash about on the bed. Emergency personal ran into the room shooing his parents out as they tried to restrain the boy and keep him from hurting himself. One of the nurses holding him down noticed that the tips of his fingers were starting to change into a black color and seemed to be sharpening into claws like that on a hawk. Getting an idea she had everybody help get him into a sitting position while she tore the back of his shirt off. There on his back were his shoulder blades came together were brown and red wings that were slowly growing by the second. Just as the nursing team made the discovery the doctor had come back with the test results from the blood. It showed that he had the mutant gene and that it had just become active when he turned 13. They kept him in the hospital until his wings finished growing and his transformation was complete. By the time it was all done Alex's once green eyes were now a bright sunshine yellow, his shaggy brown hair now had red highlights through it, his fingers and toes were all shaped into talons, and his wings were an impressive 6 feet on each side. The hospital could do nothing else for him and so sent him home with his parents.
Not knowing what to do with their son since his transformation his parents began to pull away. It started out when they ended up having to take him out of school because of the fights he was getting into. Most of it was just him trying to protect himself, but along with all the other changes came increased strength and many of the kids he got into scuffles with ended up in the hospital, because he didn't know his own strength. His mom quiet her job and tried to home school him, but that proved to be to much for her and by the time he would have been a senior she had quiet teaching him anything. His dad stopped playing any kind of sports with him once they learned about his strength and they became ashamed of him, so much that if they went out anywhere or did anything outside the house he was not allowed to come. Pretty soon when they had guests over he would be locked in his room until the guests left. The final straw was when his mom hit him on his 16th birthday for trying to sneak outside to play with his sister. From that point on it seemed ok to beat him for the smallest things. It became so bad that at one point he had to go to the hospital for broken ribs. The only one in the family that seemed to treat him the same was his little sister, Emily or Bug, who was two years younger then him. She felt bad for what their parents were doing to her big brother and wanted to help him. If it wasn't for her Alex would of ran away before his 18th birthday.
His sister, without the permission of her parents, began to look into places that her brother might be able to run away too and have a semi normal life. She happened to be coming back from a place downtown that said they would take care of mutants, but after being there she decided that was not the place for her brother to go; it seemed more like a mental hospital then anything else. A man stopped her on her way to her car and asked her if she was a mutant. She told him no, but her brother was and needed to get out of the house. He gave her a card and told her to call the number on it. When she looked at the card and saw the name Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters she went to tell the man thank you, but he had disappeared. Deciding she had run out of options she gave the number a ring the next day while her parents were out of the house. A women answered the phone and identified herself as Liz. Emily told her the story of her brother and wanted to know what sort of place this school was. After talking to Liz for over an hour she decided that this was the place her brother needed to go. He had become so angry, shy, and reclusive that she was worried about his mental health, along with his physical health. She told Liz that she thought she could get him there in about two weeks. She would get him to leave on the night of his 18th birthday, which was in two days. She would also make sure he called the house a few hours before he got there so somebody would meet him when he drove up.
Two days later after their parents had gone to bed Emily made sure Alex had everything packed that he wanted to take in a huge duffle bag. Mostly clothes, shoes, a couple of pictures of him and her growing up, a private cell phone with her number and the mansions programmed into it, a wallet with some money, and his new iPod and computer. They quietly snuck out the front door and to the garage, where Emily's tan 2001 Honda Civic sat. She gave him the keys and told him to be careful and to call her once he made it. She said she would try to keep their parents at bay and hoped they would just let him go. If she had any problems she would give him a call. Giving her a kiss and a hug and telling her that he loved her and would love to have her visit, Alex got in the car and drove off toward his new home.
