The Rise and Fall of Sara Jones

[Mindcontrol]

(Jack shook hands with the other two.)

Mindcontrol: Nice to meet you all. Now there is something I need to know. Why are you guys here?

(Jack crossed his arms. He didn't assume they were bad people, for the reason that they had helped him defeat the Sovereigns. However, he wasn't going to drop his guard that easily.)

(Meanwhile, Veronica was leading Shadowcat and Pavati to the police station. She had the sirens on they were making record timing. A few minutes later, they arrived at the police headquarters. The commissioner parked the car and got out. She quickly turned to the others.)

Com. Oros: Let's go!

[Nightcat]

Pavati's hands went to her mouth as she felt her teeth start to grow painfully. She got up behind Kitty, nearly pushing her over in an attempt to get as close as she could to the girl. She was scared, but she was barely managing to keep her emotions in check.

[Shadowcat]

Kitty wrapped an arm around Pavati's shoulders, keeping her close by her side.

Shadowcat: It's alright. We're here. You're going to be fine.

They met Veronica at the entrance to the police station and the commissioner led them throughout the station. Kitty continued to hold and try to calm the girl as she led Pavati to the rooms that Veronica was leading them to.

[Mindcontrol]

(Veronica lead the two girls into the mutant containment rooms. Being a former government agent gave her a well knowledge of what most mutants are capable of. With this experience, she devised special cells to hold any mutant. The cells were larger than most ordinary cells. The reason for this was to withstand the more massive mutants. The cells had no bars. On the sides of the walls there were vertical columns that would create a laser wall, sealing the mutant inside. The laser wall is impenetrable, strong enough to even hold a juggernaut. Veronica lead Pavati into an empty cell. Once the girl was standing in the center, Veronica pressed some numbers on a keypad and the laser system activated. A blue laser wall suddenly appeared between Veronica and Pavati, thus containing the mutant girl inside.)

[Nightcat]

Pavati backed up and put her back about two inches from the back "wall" of the cell. She whined like a scared dog, her eyes showing her fear. Somewhere down the hall, a clock struck midnight and she looked to the two women, her canine eyes pleading for help. It took only a few more seconds for the transformation to begin, and it was both painful to endure and to watch. The onlookers could here the bones reshaping, cracking. Pavati's mouth started to elongate and fill with sharp fangs. Fur sprouted up on the body and a tail formed. By the end of it all, a large white wolf lay in a small pool of blood, whining in pain.

In truth, she wasn't a werewolf as one would normally think of one. This was a curse laid on her father's family. It only affected two per generation and it didn't necessarily happen in the same immediate family.

[Shadowcat]

Kitty watched in awe as Pavati transformed into a wolf. Her heart dropped when she heard the whining and saw Pavati's white fur being drenched in blood. It seemed that Pavati was in such pain. Kitty walked up toward the cell, but the laser wall prevented her from going any further. She turned to face Veronica.

Shadowcat: Let me in.

[Nightcat]

Suddenly, Pavati's ears perked up and she looked up at the two woman. For a moment the pain and confusion remained before it turned into rage and fear. The wolf launched itself at the lasers, teeth bared to the fullest, before falling back to the floor, whining in pain. This repeated about four more times before the white creature stood shakily on all fours, making a sound between a growl and a whine. She didn't want to hurt the women, she just wanted out. She also needed meat, raw meat.

[Mindcontrol]

(Veronica turned to Kitty and shook her head.)

Com. Oros: No. She's in pain yes, but that is nothing compared to what we and others will feel if she is loose. For your safety Kitty, and the safety of everyone else, I can't let you in. Pavati wanted us to lock her in, and that's what I intend on doing.

[Shadowcat]

Kitty took a quick step back away from the cell as the wolf tried to lunge at them. Veronica was right; there was something dangerous about Pavati now. Kitty looked back at the white wolf in the cell that continued to look at the two of them. Regardless of whether she was dangerous or not, that wolf in there was still Pavati.

Shadowcat: Well, we need to do something for her. It's apparent that she needs help. She is a member of our team, and I cannot stand it that she has to suffer like this. Isn't there anything we can do?

[Mindcontrol]

Com. Oros: Well, there's not much I can do without endangering our safety. However, since this wolf creature is Pavati, she must be pretty damn tired from all that fighting at the Sovereigns' base. We should just let her rest. In the mean time, I'll go to the lunch room and see if there's anything for her to eat.

(Veronica walked out of the room, leaving Kitty alone with Pavati and the rest of the mutant criminals.)

[Nightcat]

Pavati snarled and bore her teeth as Veronica walked away before turning her attention back to Kitty. The wolf's legs were shaking horribly from the exhaustion and pain, but she refused to lay down. She licked her lips nervously and started pacing the cell, keeping Kitty in her sights at all times.

[Mindcontrol]

(Veronica made her way to the lunch room. She walked over to a door in the back of the room, which lead to a large sized kitchen. Veronica reached over toward the refrigerator and opened it. Inside were the normal things anyone would find in a refrigerator, like milk, cheese, ketchup. She was looking around until she found raw stakes wrapped in white paper. Veronica grabbed it and closed the door. She left the kitchen and lunch room and made her way back to the mutant containment room where Kitty and Pavati were waiting. As she approached the cell where Pavati was in, she slowly unwrapped the white paper.)

Com. Oros: Its not much, but this is better than nothing.

(Veronica pressed a couple of buttons on the keypad and a small hole, large enough for the food appeared in the laser wall. She quickly threw the meat inside and resealed the wall once again.)

[Nightcat]

The wolf had stopped her pacing the second she smelled the food. She stood ridged, her tail straight out as she waited for the meat to be thrown in. The second the steaks hit the floor, Pavati was on them. She attacked them without remorse and when she brought her head up, her muzzle had blood on it. She lay down now that the blood lust was gone, but she still kept a cautious eye on the two women.

[Mindcontrol]

(Veronica looked at Pavati, both in sympathy and disgust. She turned to Kitty.)

Com. Oros: She's an unstable one. I'm going to have to keep her inside this cell until she returns to her senses. Is that ok with you?

[Shadowcat]

Kitty continued to watch Pavati, a bit relieved that she had finally settled down, but took notice of the stares Pavati was giving them. She solemnly nodded her head to Veronica before turning to face her.

Shadowcat: Mind if I stay here with her? I promise not to try anything reckless or stupid.
